Hi! My name is Rachel & on the morning of April 21st, my daughter & I found a chick in our backyard. We live in the city of Pittsburgh, PA so finding a chicken was super random. I was raised in a household that took in almost every stray that came our way, so of course we took it in. We aren’t sure how old it was, but I would say it was the size of my hand. We also didn’t know what sex it was until he started to crow. I ordered him a cage & set it up the best I could, but he outgrew that. I try to keep him outside when possible but the yard pretty small & there’s nowhere for him to retreat when the weather is bad. Right now, I have 3 cats, a turtle (another rescue I’m trying to find a home for) & a 7lb Pomeranian. He got along with everyone for the most part but recently there’s been problems. I think his hormones are kicking in. He’s chasing the animals & has “attacked” my dog a few times. This is no life for a chicken & I think that aggression is coming from there, hormones & the fact that I have to keep him in the basement since I’m afraid of what might happen when we’re not around. It makes me sad bc I know he’s very sweet. He would follow me all over the house, sit on my shoulder while I did chores, he’s even taken naps with me! He needs a better life & we need to find him a home ASAP bc I absolutely cannot keep him much longer. I’ve had several homes set up only for them to flake on me. We live in a row house & since he’s been in the basement, he’s been crowing a lot so I’m afraid my neighbors are starting to hate me. I’ve tried every outlet I could so if anyone can help, you’d be my hero! Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi! Do you have an animal rescue league around that area? The one here in berks county takes farm animals. Roosters are really hard to re-home. There's also a PA chat here that you could post to. Under state threads.

My best suggestion would be local poultry groups on fb. People on there generally love chickens and even if they can’t take him, they may have suggestions and try to help if they know the situation!
