I have had my 14 chicks from just a few days old. Now I'm down to 11. They got and were treated for coccii once, then twice(losing two this time). Now they have bloody poop in the coop again. I went out to feed them yesterday and one was dead. One is very ill now, she probably won't make it. What is going on? ? Why has this happened 3 Times? I'm doing everything right. I'm so sad and just confused. Please help! !!!!

Change medicines. If you're using Coccid, then switch to sulfadimethoxine. Make sure your dose is high enough. Make sure they're drinking the medicated water and nothing else.

Can you give more details about the illness? How were you mixing the Corid, how long did you treat, did you treat them all, and did you change their bedding to get rid of the droppings? The water and food have really got to be kept free of droppings since they are infectious. You may well have a strain that has developed resistance, and may need to use another medication.

What dose have you been using, and for how long? Something is going on. Have you been using vitamins with cocci meds?

I've been using the sulfadimethoxine. I treated for 5 days, and followed the amount to use on the back. They have only had access to that water, and there is no droppings in their food or water, i gave them yogurt for about a week after and they seemed on the up, until Thursday. I'm at a loss. This is my first time raising chickens, and I'm kinda thinking I should have never started. Its just so sad to see them suffer.

This is the problem,Sulmet only kills 2 strains of Coccidiosis. Purchase Corid(amprolium)it treats all 9 strains of Coccidiosis. Sulmet is very hard on chicks. Correction,do you mean Sulfamethazine-Sulmet or Sulfadimethoxine(Di-Methox,Albon)? There is a difference between the two meds,i did not realize that Sulfadimethoxine was available in the U.S. my literature indicated it is not available for use in Canada or U.S. for poultry, will have to check into this.
I would switch to Corid(amprolium)Sulfadimethoxine only helps with 5 strains, considering there are 9,you may have one that Sulfadimethoxine does not target.

Apparently Sulfadimethoxine is not commercially available for poultry use in U.S. and Canada. Vet can prescribe.

I'm sorry, I used sulmet. I'm so scatter brained right now :( it's actually for chickens. I know some people use the kind that says it's for cows. Sorry I'm all new to this and just get my info online or from the local feed store.

Ok,Sulmet only kills 2 strains of Cocci, this is why chicks are still dying. Purchase Corid(amprolium),amprolium targets all 9 strains. Sulmet is very hard on chicks. Treat ALL chicks for 5 days,do not give vitamins during treatment(interferes with medication)give vitamins after treatment. Make sure after treatment is complete, you give your chicks a high quality vitamin, reason being that they will be depleted of vitamins after receiving both treatments. But,Corid treatment is necessary. I know right now you feel totally stressed, but unfortunately this does happen, and deaths do occur. It will get better. You should see no blood in poop in approx 24 hours, chicks should show an improvement in a couple of days. Try adding warm water to feed,so it resembles oatmeal, chicks love this and it is easier for frail ones to eat.

Go ahead as Ten Chicks said and get Corid--it is available in powder or liquid form and use it for 5-7days. It treats all 9 known cocci strains that affect chickens. Don't get too discouraged--once your chickens beat this they should be immune. Actually the ones that have survived may have already built up some immunity.

Ok. I'm going to head to the feed store. I'll get that. Thank you for all the help! I really appreciate it. Fingers crossed!
