Please help- special pet hen- SICK- big object in crop?

My opinion is she has adult coccidiosis
so give her this

1 slice of bread
1/4 cup od water
put in 1/8 tsp of amproylium
and you need to get the liquid into her if she will not eat it her self

take all other feed away from her
she needs to get the liquid down her

I probably would get a eye dropper and mix just the water and amproylium
then stay till you get the medicated water into her
do as much as you can

Quick update:

Ophelia is much better this morning.

We withheld food and water overhight to check crop action/digestion. her crop had mostly emptied but there was definitely a mass of impacted fibrous crud in there, smaller than walnut sized. My theory is that the larger item I felt yesterday may have caused this.

So today we are on a regimen of hourly crop massage, along with soft feed, plain yogurt and olive oil. She is eagerly eating all of these now (whereas yesterday morning she would not eat anything.)

She clearly has much improved energy today, so we're hopeful that this will help clear the impaction and she will be fine. My only concern now is the larger item in there.... I am hoping the olive oil will help her pass it through to the gizzard where it can be ground down.

we'll keep her inside another night and withold food/water overnight again so we can check the crop in the morning. if the large object is still there, I dont know what we'll do.

her breathing is also much more normal. I have only heard her do the wheezy cough once this morning so I am hopeful that she will also recover from the fluid she inhaled

Just found this thread on the Fatima of the Gold-Dust Feathers thread and I got caught up...

Do you have an update for us today about Ophelia?

It sounds like you've been doing a wonderful job and working hard for her. I'm pulling for her!

she has adult coccidiosis
and needs to be given some amproylium and fast
mix amproylium inwater
it will not hurt the other adults to have this for 5-7 days
I would make a wet mash
qt of dry crumbles
1-1/2 to 2 qts of water
in water mix 3/4 tsp of amproylium
mix and feed 3 tbsp per adult chicken
so mix enough so you can feed them this for two mornings
they should eat it in 30-45 minutes
then clean feeder and put back their dry crumbles

all the time have the ampolium in water

if using sulmet put same directions on medicated wet mash
