I have a flock of 3 and a half month old Buff Orpingtons & Heritage Rhode Island Reds (and one Old English Roo, who is two weeks older than the rest of the flock.). One buff & one Red have turned out to be Roo's (yes, that equals three roos!! But they're getting along so far) and the other two Buffs and one red, I believe (so far! lol) are girls. My one little female Red is MUCH smaller than the rest and lately has been acting strangely. She's always separated from the rest of the flock, hiding in a bush or under a tree.. while the rest are out foraging & running around the yard. She seems slower when she does walk around, almost moving cautiously vs running with the rest of the flock. By the time she gets up to where they are, they've moved on. She doesn't move when you walk by her, step over her, reach down to pick her up, etc. I've tried hand feeding her, but she doesn't seem interested. When I open the coop door in the am- the rest come running out but she stays behind, perched on the side of the nesting box. She's making me very nervous... any clue to why she's behaving so differently than the rest of the batch? I've only noticed it since we've moved- which was this past Saturday. Before that, they were in an enclosed pen so perhaps I just never noticed? Anyone have any ideas?

She could be sick, or she could just be the very bottom of the pecking order and trying to avoid bullying. But even low man on the totem pole still sticks with the flock for safety. I'd watch her closely, see if she is having any subtle symptoms of illness, check to see what her droppings look like, etc.

I've been trying to keep an eye on her- check on her as much as I can. I don't see any other symptoms other than the behavior though.

I would do a complete exam on her. Look listen to her breathing and feel for anything that might be wrong. Is her crop emptying at night? Is her breathing labored or any noise when she breathes? How is her poo? Is her feathers ruffled or puffed up? Does she hold her head down? Is she eating at all? Does she seem really sleepy? More symptoms are needed you can post the more we can be of help.does she seem lethergic and in active?

I've paid more attention this afternoon... she's inside right now, but not moving. She's under a fake tree in the house and hasn't moved in quite sometime. I brought her in to try to feed her myself, in case it was a bullying issue with the others. (she is the smallest of the flock.)
She doesn't eat. I've tried everything from chick starter to meal worms. Nothing. She allows me to pry her beak open, but refuses to take any food. I can carry her and she doesn't move at all- in fact, falls asleep. She's falling asleep where she stands. Her crop is empty- not sure when the last time she's eaten is- as the feeder is inside the coop and they mostly forage all day. Haven't seen her pecking at anything. Breathing doesn't seem abnormal- no injuries (I've checked her over today) Honestly, haven't seen her Poo- which is another reason I've brought her inside and isolated her. She's really starting to make me nervous now. I bought a separate nesting box and put her in that- but she didn't seem interested, hopped right out and went under a tree instead.
UPDATE: first poop all day: runny, yellowish/greenish. Still lethargic... but has taken a few bites of feed and a few sips of water.
