I have a flock of 3 and a half month old Buff Orpingtons & Heritage Rhode Island Reds (and one Old English Roo, who is two weeks older than the rest of the flock.). One buff & one Red have turned out to be Roo's (yes, that equals three roos!! But they're getting along so far) and the other two Buffs and one red, I believe (so far! lol) are girls. My one little female Red is MUCH smaller than the rest and lately has been acting strangely. She's always separated from the rest of the flock, hiding in a bush or under a tree.. while the rest are out foraging & running around the yard. She seems slower when she does walk around, almost moving cautiously vs running with the rest of the flock. By the time she gets up to where they are, they've moved on. She doesn't move when you walk by her, step over her, reach down to pick her up, etc. I've tried hand feeding her, but she doesn't seem interested. When I open the coop door in the am- the rest come running out but she stays behind, perched on the side of the nesting box. She's making me very nervous... any clue to why she's behaving so differently than the rest of the batch? I've only noticed it since we've moved- which was this past Saturday. Before that, they were in an enclosed pen so perhaps I just never noticed? Anyone have any ideas?
