A friend had a goose sitting on eggs she thought were infertile. She got bored sitting and abandoned the nest so I put the eggs in the incubator just in case. The eggs had been cold for about 24 hours. Fast forward a week and I went on holiday and forgot about them. Got back today, went in to turn the bator off and there are two babies! Needless to say I don't have anything ready or any idea what I'm doing. I tried putting them in a box with a red heat lamp but they got cold and one went.realy still so I've put them back in the incubator and turned the temp down to 26 degrees as it was on 37 and I was worried it was too hot.

Is 26 degrees a good temp?
is there any reason they can't stay in the incubator over night?
How long before they should be able to stand up?
What food water requirements do they have and how soon do they need feeding? I've put water out for them but they are just laying in the warmth and occasionally cheering but not attempting to get up and drink.

Before I get savaged for knowing nothing, the eggs were a Hail Mary because I felt sorry for the goose, I wasn't planning on incubating.

They can go for 48 -72 hours after hatching without food or water. If they were just hatched, they will be fine overnight. They will rely on the absorbed yolk for the first couple of days. I usually leave them for at least two days in the incubator. 26 degrees may be too low; that may be why they aren't moving much. I usually aim for about 90-95 degrees fahrenheit in the incubator after they first hatch which should be around 32 celsius. I reduce it a little after they dry off. Hatching is hard work, so don't stress if they seem to rest a lot the first day or so. Good luck.
