Please help!

Well I thought that a pheasant could sleep in a nest box or something...I just thought if we got big ones they may fight off predators...
Sorry, but I think that you need to build a predator proof shelter that's appropriate for what ever bird you decide to get. None of the birds you mentioned will be safe on the ground at night, period. Coyotes, falcons, hawks? They won't be safe during the day either.

We have neighbors separated only by a fence, so we don't want them getting upset...plus the homeowners association is pretty strict here. No chickens, livestock, etc.
I mean this in a nice way, but sounds like you should stick with animals you're allowed to have.

Wondering, for what purpose are you wanting them? Egg's, pet's or feathered guard bird? I agree with Kathy.. You don't want to start trouble, but if you want a pretty bird, that you will still have to feed get a peacock.. Duck's require fresh water every day & that's just to drink.. You will still need evening housing and a small place for them to swim.. Even if you were to clip wing's on the other bird's you mentioned, you have the issue of food & water & sleeping quarter's.. Why not a parot..
