My chickens recently laid their first eggs (yesterday) and just now they started clucking VERY loudly. I'm scared the neighbors will get annoyed so I need answers FAST. Is this normal? Why are they doing it? Can I help them in any way?

It is very loud!! I find it as loud as a rooster crow!

Its called the egg song, the hens make it before or after laying an egg. There isn't really any way to stop it.

Oh my goodness! Thank you soooo much! When will they stop a session of loud clucking before starting their next after laying another egg? Is a session like, five minutes long? Or 10? Or 2? And so on.

Ok. Thanks again! They stopped now. I thought they were sick or something. THANK YOU!!!

Yes, hens can be very loud. Our coop is probably 700' from our house and we can sometimes hear them "singing" the egg song. Our nearest neighbor is our daughter & son-in-law, so no worries but I can understand your worry. Maybe offer your neightbor free eggs, then they may come to appreciate the "song".

Hens can be very loud, sometimes just around the time they are laying, sometimes for hours at a time.
I have a couple screamers, yakyakyakyak!
