Hi!

I have noticed that in the past few days my chickens comb has been going really pale when she goes to bed. She sleeps in her nesting box. She has plenty of food and water during the day and she gets a lot of exersise. I live in England and in the past few days it has been ranging from 20-25 degrees. I don’t think that it’s the problem though as it is not hot in the evenings when she goes to bed. I have noticed a type of worm in her poo so I am going to get that sorted out right away. But I don’t know if that is why her comb is getting pale or not.

I am new to chicken keeping so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

P.S. When her comb gets pale her wattles tend to get blotchy white and red.

She could have an infestation so maybe your vet can do a fecal float to confirm. Also, knowing the type of worm is important when choosing a medicine.
What is a fecal float? Also can you do it yourself?

Pictures of her...clear ones.
Did you get pictures of the worm?

Check for lice and mites too. They can kill...so can worms.
Thank you for your help I will try to get pictures today.

A fecal float is a test done under a microscope. It involves a smear of fecal matter, then any worms or eggs can be identified. I always bring a fecal sample when its my dogs yearly check-up.

Ok I am going to get pictures now and I will get pictures of her comb this evening.

Here are pictures of her poop. They were taken this morning.

Here is a picture of her comb. It was taken this morning. During the day her comb usually looks like this. It gets paler in the evening. I will send a photo of that tonight.

I have recently noticed that in the past three days when she’s had suspected worms her poop seems too form a puddle when she poos. That puddle that that puddle is fairly big and is a yellowish clear substance. It then has the normal poop in the middle. I’m sort of worried about this and I don’t know if it’s normal or not. Please give me any information required.
