She's a trooper. Doing well and layed an egg!All good suggestions! I'll add "Keep her warm," as in, away from AC vents. If you have Chick-Saver (electrolytes,) lay some along the line of her beak with an eyedropper. She should swallow reflexively without getting it into her lungs. If you don't have poultry electrolytes, you can use Pedialyte or Gatorade (or mix up your own.)
Keep a close eye out for the two missing hens, as well. They're likely to come wandering back in the next day or two and you'll want to get them to safety (and given electrolytes) as soon as you can.
It's been a few days, now. How is she doing?
I took your advice and tried this. She would actually drink it. Thank you so so much! She is much improved! The formula for sugar water is 1 tsp table sugar to 1 c warm water, plus a pinch each of salt and baking soda. Stir to dissolve and hold some up to her beak. If she won't take it, use your finger or a Q tip to put a drop at the crease of her beak and she should swallow it. Repeat until she refuses. Good luck!
Wonderful, glad to hear. She also needs plain water. The sugar water is good for shock and to get her hydrated. I don't know if anyone suggested this, but if she's not eating, moisten her regular food till it's like a gruel (like oatmeal) and see if she'll eat that. She needs the balanced nutrition of her regular diet. You could add a spoonful of plain yogurt, she should like that. She's a trooper. Doing well and layed an egg!My brother may never get her back. She has become quite the pet at my house
