In the Brooder

I’m completely at a loss. Despite treating with corid, keeping brooders clean and bleaching everything, I’m losing my chicks left and right. We lost 9 yesterday, 1 this morning, and now atleast 2 more have bloody poop. I have 2 silkies and I’m treating corid but deathly afraid it is going to make them sicker with their tendency to have vitamin deficiencies.

How do I stop this rampant loss? We wear gloves. We have done everything we can do but it’s not helping. Do I cull, throw everything away and start over? I seriously am so upset and at a complete loss over my babies.

Give the 2 tsp/gallon to the Silkies as well. I weighed the same thing you did (one of my Silkie chicks even had neurological problems.) You can correct any deficiencies later with vitamin treatment. Better to live!

Can you post pics of your brooder setup? Are the chicks able to get away from the heat to a room temperature area? How hot is the hottest area? Just want to make sure there's nothing else at play here that could be causing this. Obviously you want to keep the brooder clean and dry, especially around their water source.

All we have here are silkies, and I can tell you they will die from coccidiosis, but usually don't die from vitamin deficiencies. You need to dose them the same. You can compensate later for the vitamin deficiencies.

Get some Poultry Cell and put that in their water after the 5 or 7 days of Corid you're doing. You can give them that for a week, then do the second dosage of Corid.

What feed and bedding are you using?

Are they near your kitchen or in a garage where fumes are present? The bloody poop certainly points to coccidiosis, though. Keep going with 2 teaspoons/gallon.

None of the chicks that have it or have passed are on heat as it’s already pretty warm. They are in our garage with 2 fans for circulation. I think it’s like 85 in here is what this says.

They are in our garage. I just went out and gave them corid water with 2tsps. We don’t keep vehicles or anything motorized in our garage.
