Please Help!

Not sure if this is the place to post this?

I have a year old hen who all of a sudden today,

Seems very tired
Has a fading comb ~ going orangish
Is bedding down and closing her eyes ( never seen her do this before)
Has a poohy bottom

She is a sexsallink brown hen, she is free range now that it's spring.

What could be wrong with her?

I can not feel an egg inside. The other hens seem very protective of her.

please help

Has she been laying? Were her eggs normal? What does she eat? What is the bedding? Have you changed anything lately?

She's not consistent with her laying, eggs are normal, she is feed 18% free range crumble and she ranges through out the yard most of the day, I haven't changed anything other then they are out in the yard more because our snow has melted. The coop is clean and normal looking inside.?????

She has been munching on the finch food underneeth the bird feeder????

Is her crop large? Is she eating? Drinking? Are you sure she isn't eggbound? I would check her crop and if that's ok, I would put her in some warm water. Get the poo off her butt. She may have worms. Check to see any. The warm water will help her lay an egg if she is bound up.

I'm not sure what her crop is exactly. Sorry. I just reseached this and yes it's large.

She is eating & drinking.

I've read so many different stuff about egg bound that i'm not really sure?

How and where do I check for worms?

Whether or not my advice is right, or wrong...if she were my hen, this is what I would do.....
Bring her inside....put her in the tub with warm water...you might have to support her so she doesnt flop over, and drown. gently rub her underside....from the breast bone, towards the vent. Get all the poo off of her feathers, then inspect to make sure there are no injuries or maggots. Inspect her vent...make sure she is not prolapsed. ( the vent will look like her insides are coming outside) If it is, look up prolaps vent. Once she is clean, and after about a 10 minute rub dwon, I would towel her off good, and if possible, use a warm hair dryer to get her as dry as possible. Put her in a dog crate, or box, where its warm and dry, and quiet. Offer her food and water. Keep her there for at least 24 hours. Monitor her food and water intake. Water is always more important than food. Then, come back and give us updates. Hope this helps. Good luck with your hen.
