I have an old dog kennel that I would like to convert to a chicken run. It has a concrete floor and it's area is 20 feet x 30 feet. I would like to fence in the area and build my coop inside too. I cannot free range my chickens and thought this would be a good way to use the space and provide the chickens with plenty of room. I need some advice on how to best use this space or whether or not this space should be used for chickens.

Please give me some feedback.

Thank you.

I would fence the whole thing in, and depending on the number of chickens you have, build a coop that will allow for at least 2-3 sq feet per chicken inside. There will be more than enough space for them, chicken paradise! I probably would put down something over the concrete for them though such as shavings/straw/dirt so they can get the outdoor feel. Also, I would put something over the top of it so that they cannot fly out because they can fly about 6 feet up full grown. You will need 1 nesting box inside the coop per 4 to 5 birds and some ventilation also. Windows are also good to have so that it isn't pitch black inside, they like a little light. Hope this helped!

add a few windows, cover the top for predator protection and to keep your chickens in, lay down some shaving or straw or something so they aren't just on concrete

I'd put a bunch of soil over the concrete and a bunch of leaves so they can get some fun scratching around and bugs will hide in the leaves for them to eat. They will get a good bit of exercise from happily scratching and make some good compost for you as well.
