My sick chick had blood coming out of her ear hole on the side of her head. Please someone tell what to do. I have been giving her antibiotics for two weeks.
14 days of antibiotics is plenty. If nothing has improved, then either it is the wrong type of antibiotic (not all treat the same type of infections) or it is something antibiotics are of no help with. Is there a vet you can call? How bad is the ear bleeding? Is it possible the chicken has mites/lice and is scratching to the point of bleeding?
Do you have a picture of her you could post? How old is she, how many other chickens do you have, the more info you give the easier it is to determine more quickly what will improve the situation.
An upper respiratory infection can cause the eardrum to blow and so result in blood (in a human). I am totally blanking as to if a chicken ear is set up the same way. Of course, in a human, the respiratory infection, and resulting ear infection can be either from a virus or a bacteria. Also, even after the infection is gone, in a human or a dog, it can take a month or more for all of the buildup of 'gunk' in the ear to completely clear out. The entire time that the ear has some of that 'gunk' there will be some balance issues, and scratching at the ear. (The dog would scratch, the human would rub . )
But coughing and gasping can also be from various nasty worms. I don't get those kinds or worms, so I know very little about them. But, I think one of them is called gape worms and they stick in the throat. Could be mixing up my worms....but you might want to look up what kind of worms are common in your area.
