hello, last year I only saw this duck once, now there are two or three. Can someone please tell me what they are?

Looks like a Swedish and a mallard. The Swedish is. Domestic duck and does't belong in the wild. If the other is in fact a mallard then I was assume it's wild and can fly.

That's what I was thinking and yes it's wild and can fly and is always with the mallards. I looked up the Swedish and it's a pretty rare duck correct? Should I be contacting local dnr?

Swedish ducks are classified as Watch by the Livestock Conservancy.

  • Watch: Fewer than 2,500 annual registrations in the United States and estimated global population less than 10,000. Also included are breeds that present genetic or numerical concerns or have a limited geographic distribution.

The Conservancy counts only registered ducks held by breeders when they do their poultry census. So, for instance, my Blue Swedish would not be counted since I am not breeding them (though they do breed). However, my Cayugas are counted since they are a registered breeding group.

Should you contact your local DNR? If they are tracking breeds of ducks in your area then probably yes. However they would probably be more interested in the Mallard than the Swedish.
