Just looked them up. lots of species, in the tropics and semi-tropics. They of course carry some poultry diseases, and like most ticks spend most of their life cycle off the birds, in their environment. And many feed at night, so look at the birds at night with a flashlight.
And, because most of them live most of the time off the birds, repeat treatments of the coop, run, bedding, all that, will be necessary.
