We are ready to purchase gate, coop door, and chicken pop-out latches that we hope will be at least 99% raccoon-proof.

Thanks in advance for any pictures and information of latches that have worked for you to keep the masked bandits OUT, no matter how long they fiddle with them!

Thanks for the pictures! Since I'm the type of person who forgets where I put the key to the padlock, I guess combination locks are my best defense.

I will crouch protectively over the lock when entering the numbers, just to be sure. (Vision of two raccoons behind me, one with binocs, the other with pad and pencil. "Okay, Frank, it's 24 right, 16 left...")

I have 4 locks keyed alike: one is on the chicken food trashcan that's kept beside the coop, the other is on the coop, one is on the front gate, and the 4th is on the door to our house's crawlspace. One key that's always in my pants pocket (unless I came to the coop in my long johns!!

I just have the key on a carabiner hanging on a hook right next to the lock. No need to search/find. You can have locks geared the same so that one key will open all the doors.

I suppose a coon *could* open a keyed lock - nothing would surprise me - but I haven't seen it happen for myself yet.
