PLEASE post your poop board pics....

I'm a big proponent of removeable poop boards. I use a plastic boot tray. It's light, and regular poop doesn't stick to it. I simply pull it out from under the roost every morning, carry it over to my composter, dump it out, hose off any cecal poo, and replace. Takes me all of three minutes, and everything is as clean and pristine as the first day I put it into the coop.

Here's mine.
They are removable for easy scraping, and hoseing off.
Made from thick hard plastic panels, similar to a plexiglass type material.
works very well.

Here's the frame work that supports the removable plastic panels.

If you intend to make your poop boards NON-removable for cleaning,...
Then I would suggest making them a little lower, below the roosting boards, than I have mine.
6"to 8" below the roost should be fine.
that way you could use a kiddies garden hoe as an effective scraper.

Hope this helps

Maybe if you mount a couple of 2x4 joist hangers on the wall spaced about a foot from the back wall, you can cut a 2x4 to fit exactly and you will be able to easily remove it for cleaning. If you also cut a sheet of plywood or something sturdy that fits under the roost, you can take it out and clean it off whenever you do your springcleanings of the coop. A majority of the poo will be collected here anyways since they tend to spend a good amount of time on the roost.

We switched over from a droppings pit to a board...what a difference! We LOVE IT!! Every morning, I just take a big drywall mud scraper and scrape from one end to the other into a bucket and then straight to the garden or compost heap with them! Periodicallly we remove the board itself and hose it down. I don't feel that shavings are necessary at all unless a particularly runny poop remains on the board and then I just toss a handful of pine shavings on it from the bottom of the coop.

Raised the roosts, removed pit and added board (which is removable for cleaning!)

this is what we did. having the lip on it stops it from falling off onto the ground. it works so good we are going to be building a larger coop next week and doing the roost/drop board again.. you just use a dust pan and scoop the dirty litter into a bag.

This thread is turning out MUCH better than I thought! Thank you to everyone that is posting! I'm hoping when the weather cooperates and we get this project going, they will have so much more room in there!

Cleaning your board will be easy. I take a 4" paint scraper and an old kitty litter bucket out with me. I scrape the poo and place it in the bucket. We have a local store that sells odds and ends (Marcs for you NE Ohioers!) and purchased a 12" metal workshop dustpan that I keep on a hook in the coop. I'll sometimes use it instead of the scraper. It's really easy. I'd love to say I clean every day, but there have been some weeks that the whole week has gone by before I scrape it...(Those winter days were cold!) The droppings board was great to have. My roosts are easily removed for easy cleaning of the board underneath it.

You probably cannot see it real well. Mine is covered with a plastic sheet. Every four or five days I roll the plastic up, take it out to the compost heap and shake it off, then put the plastic sheet back in place..
