Had similar temps as Woodmort - overnight lows in the single digits and highs were upper teens. The girls had free access to outside (spent most of their time in the run). At night, they went inside the coop (not insulated and no additional heat) no problems.

thanks everyone.i feel alot better.tonight it will only be 9 degrees,so i think when i check on them in the am and they are doing fine ill be ok the rest of the winter.i feel sorry for them tho being stuck in the coop.the spoiled brats wont go out in the cold...

It was -15*F here last night, supposed to get to -20 tonight. The HIGHS are to be in the single digits below zero tomorrow. My chickens are in an unheated coop, but they do have warm water (heated water bowl) and the coop is draft-free.

An easy way to insulate is with cardboard, just staple it up to the wall or ceiling. I just have it on my north wall. Very cheap, they don't eat it, and I can do it.

My coop is not insulated, either. If your doors and windows are closed, and there are no big gaping holes for any cold winds to blow through, they'll be fine. Really, they will. My windows aren't completely tight, either. There are some very small gaps around a couple of them.

I had to stand out in howling winds and snow flurries trying to get my stupid chickens to go into the coop this afternoon. I just about froze, but they were running around pecking!

I didn't want to come back down after dark, so I shoved them in...the last holdout is half nekkid, you can see her pink body under her wings. But did she want to go inside? No sirree! She might have missed a sunflower seed!
