Please stay home when sick

I should thank the good Lord every day that I'm able to be a SAHM! I remember the terrible tug-o-war I put myself through whenever I worked full time and had a sick child. Didn't want to disappoint my employer, but wanted to be with my sick little one, who needed me most. DON'T MISS THOSE DAYS!

I'll tell you Robin, when I had to work when my son was small, it was a prerequisite to hiring. I made them perfectly well aware that I had a small child and he came first. I also reminded them that I have the skills they need and could do it half the time anyone else could.

I totally agree which is why I made my kids stay home from school for a WEEK until they were completely well enough to go back. Even me, I been sick and haven't left the house other then to go to my or the kids dr. appointments.

Picture this: Daisy Girl Scout meeting, 6 little girls, each 5 years old, sitting at a table putting foam stickers on paper bags. 10 minutes into the meeting, the one in the middle says "Mrs. @@@@, I have a fever today."

I said "You do? Is your mom here?"
"No."
I sat her at a table by herself. I sat on the nearby table and did some work and gave her encouraging remarks, so she didn't feel horrid about being by herself. What else was I supposed to do?
Then, she said "My mom and brother got a shot today."
I asked "They did? Why didn't you?"
"Cuz I was scared?"
Then I couldn't help myself. I asked "Honey, do you have swine flu?"
She shrugged.

Why, why, why would someone bring a sick child to a Daisy meeting? We don't pass out gold bars. We don't dock their pay for missing a day.

Can we say stupid is as stupid does?

We have had so many parents sending their kids to school sick that the school changed its policy; if your child has a fever it is an automatic two days off, or as many as it takes until the child has not run a fever for one whole day. The Parochial school in town was taking each kids temp when they came to school it was getting so bad.... parents sending kids to school who were hacking all over the place, running fevers, not eating, looking like zombies..... just stupid. If your employer has a problem with it you can suggest you bring your sick kid with you to work so the whole office can get infected..... employers need to be more flexible and understanding.

I do love the earlier comment on what is an annoyance for you could kill me.... no kidding.

I made the mistake of going to visit a friend at the hospital.

I should have worn a mask... She was coughing like crazy.

Guess who has lungs filling with gunk now? ME!

Is it worse than regular flu for you?
My kids got the vaccine today, but it's not my turn yet.

I think the Flu qualifies for The Family and Medical Leave Act

Covered employers must grant an eligible employee up to a total of 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for one or more of the following reasons:

to care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) with a serious health condition; or
to take medical leave when the employee is unable to work because of a serious health condition.

I dont fall under the FMLA act! I work 75 miles from my actual company so they do not have to cover me. (I tried submitting paperwork for when my DH was very ill and found this out)

My dh works for IBM. They just implemented pandemic virus rules at work. If you get the flu, you are expected to remain at home a full week after symtoms have subsided. At least one company realizes that the loss of productivity that results from employees infecting other workers.

They must feel that it is better to have a few dozen employees out for a couple of weeks than to have hundreds at work, infecting others, and doing subpar work.
