As the name of the cock in the play : Chanticleer is pronounced Chante-clear.
As the name of the breed of chicken : Chantecler, is pronounced Chante-clair. see post 8 for spoken words at Dictionary page.
As a side note, . Both Brother Wilfrid and the dictionary state Chantecler means "sing clearly" not "sing brightly"
