I had 2 chickens (1 cockerel 10 wks old, named Alfred, 1 pullet 11 wks old, named Willemena) and 6 guinea keets living in a brooder in our basement. Yesterday my friends were over and helped to catch the guinea keets. One of them, Emily, noticed that Willemena's beak is crooked. Well I consider it bent. It looks aligned fine but when you look at her from above you can tell that her beak is not straight from her head, it's bent at the end. She has been eating fine and is acting normal, except that within the past few weeks she's gotten less friendly, but I guess that's because she's growing up. I really hope it isn't cross beak, she is a nice pullet and since cross beak is often genetic..her chicks could have it/carry it right? Willemena was hatched under a hen and the only reason she is living inside is because at about 4 wks old she was attacked by a dog and had an injury to her leg. (That injury healed fine about a week after she got it and she has no limps or anything now)
Another thing, when I was looking in Willemena's brooder I saw a poop with blood in it. I didn't see who it came from but it was still wet. Both Willemena and Alfred are active and walking fine. Alfred even called Willemena to the food!! He is growing up so fast. The only thing about Alfred is that his comb is "flopped". It bends over like the laying hens combs often do. I have never seen this in a rooster. I think it might be a lack of sunshine or vitamins? (They are eating a 26% game bird starter only)
I have pics of both Willemena and Alfred but I haven't gotten them off the camera yet. I will try to do that later today or tomorrow. Please help if you can
