PLEASE TRY THIS FEED!! My 11 hens have laid over 100 eggs so far this year. Poll: what brand of feed do you get?

If you have too many eggs you can always donate them to a local food bank. They will be much appreciated. BTW, I usually get 6 eggs from 8 hens each day. That’s about 112 eggs per hen this year.

But if 120 eggs is the total, that makes about 11 eggs per hen, which I would consider very disappointing by late May. Any reasonable layer should be able to lay 11 eggs in 2 weeks at this time of year, even if she takes time off at other seasons.

I knew that they have laid at least 100 eggs so far this year, so I said 120+ because I didn't want to over-exaggerate the amount I get. Honestly it's very hard to keep track of all these eggs, I'm sure I've gotten 200 or more for sure.

My hens and chick LOVE it. Where before they would not touch it and leave all the food, now the container is emptied every evening.

They don't pick through it and get all the "goodies?" Mine do.
My chickens are OBSESSED with mash/mush. Kalmbach is also really easy to ferment. The one thing I hate about fermenting feed though is the smell As well as how messy it is. If you don't judge correctly how much you need to put in a mason jar, it will overflow and explode out the top of the jar.

I buy from a local mill - my dozen birds (some a few years old) produce 35-40 eggs a week. Local mill.

Kalmbach is good feed nutritionally for those in that particular market segment, it has plenty of supporters here on BYC. Its few problems are typical of the "whole grain" style of feeds, and easily addressed.

I feed mine either CHS Payback layer pellets or X-cel layer pellets. X-cel is $20, Payback $22 for a 50 pound bag.

They free range sometimes, but not too often these days. I also get free produce scraps from the grocery store and let them gorge on lettuce, cabbage and other goodies from time to time.

My 7 hens have given me 855 eggs since January 1 this year, not counting any of the broken, softshell or chicken-eaten eggs.

Yes, they are egg laying machines! One or two either have reproductive issues or are stressed out. It's possible that the girl that's at the bottom of the pecking order gets picked on so much it affects the quality and quantity of her eggs.

Could be one has internal laying issues, too. One of her sisters died because of internal laying the day after Thanksgiving last year. I found a couple of empty soft eggshells floating around inside her body cavity when I did the necropsy.
