female.

Looking at all the male vs. female, I still think that Bluegrass' is a female, because males are lighter. Oh and the look on your pullets face is PRICELESS XD
Thanks :)

It's sometimes really hard to tell the colour if it is not right next to the obvious darker/lighter one. Sometimes females will be lighter, but not usually. I have one I am still not sure of. The comb is just so small.

See now mines legs are yellow they are not darker. But like i said i did that checking by the fanning of the tail and if this works then its tail did fan out. I sure hope it is a hen, i cant have roos i have nieghbors. This is my fav. chicken outta the ones i have so i will be really upset if it is a roo. :(

I have no idea what you mean by the tail fan thing.. That doesn't sound like any way to sex them I've heard of.

I'm leaning toward cockerel, though a side view pic of head would help. Does s/he have wattles showing? If so, that would mean boy, along with yellow legs and lighter color. (My 12 week BR pullet has a paler, smaller comb, tiny wattles, dark legs/feet from the front, and is darker.) Have never heard of fanning tails to sex.

When in doubt, wait 'til it crows (or lays an egg!).

The women i got them from and + i looked up the fanning of the tails. if you hold the chicken head away from you/tail feathers towards you and lean the chicken foward/down the tail feathers will(if this is true) Fan out if they are a hen or stay together if they are a roo. The reason they are said to do this is when a hen is protecting her chicks her tan will fan out to i guess make her look larger? I am not sure i dont remember how it was explained. But if this is a way to tell then she is a hen. If not then i guess its a wait and see. I will take some pics to post tomorrow of the side. Its late and i just got home from work. I really hope she is a hen. I just found out my other chicken which is a Amber star is more likely to be a roo. Gah i have no luck.
