Please walk me through a typical day/week...

The only really unpleasant part for me about chicken keeping is that you have to go outside in cold weather, early in the morning, to tend for them. Brrrr! You can make this easier on yourself by designing your coop and run with winter in mind. A roofed run (built to withstand your snowloads) will mean no shoveling snow (you can also put up tarps or panels on the bottom sides of the pen in winter to stop snow from drifting in. Think about how you'll get water out to your coop in winter, and keep it from freezing.

We had a really weird winter this year in the DFW area, where I live. Even though our coop is only about 30 or 40 feet from our back door, I'm eyeing an area just off our breezeway, thinking about building an aviary there where the chickens could winter over. I'd only be stepping out the back door to tend to them. It's very tempting to think about.

one year i said to my husband "next spring im getting chickens, can you help me design a coop?" i let him get used to the idea, we went together and picked up 14 babies, he loved the idea of picking them out insted of ordering online. a day latter HE sugested i go get 4 more

our babies are 6 weeks old now my 4 yr old and 6 yr old spend time with each and every one of them every day since we brought them home, they love feeding them their treats and taking scraps out to them and have named them all. they are VERY proud of their chicks and talk about them at school all the time, my son took his to school for show and tell (they both have 4 of their own)
my tipical day is very easy even with 18 plus 2 baby ducks. we just put them outside today

after i drop my daughter off at school 8 am i fill feeders and check the waterer in their big brooder box , hold them and pet them and leave the top of their box open for a while so they can perch on the sides and strech their wings, close them up for the day
around 2:30 open up the box for more play time and treats and top off the feeders, the kids will spend about 30-60 min. with them after school, today when they went to their run for the first time my 4 yr old spent 3 hours "babysitting them"
