My husband was the one who really wanted the meat chickens and he swore he'd take care of them 100%. Yeah I just took over right away, I figure I'm already taking care of one coop/run, why not just take care of the second one at the same time.Love your farm name and am happy to follow along. Lol that is so funny that you ended up taking over the meat birds care! I think I would skip the plucking as well, for the first time at least. Just seems easier than sourcing a plucker, and I don’t ever find myself eating chicken skin so I have kind of wondered why it is kept on most of the timeMy husband was the one who really wanted the meat chickens and he swore he'd take care of them 100%. We've figured out a good set up for when we process them. With the Cornish crosses, we didn't bother plucking them and went full skinning which made it a lot faster. With these reds, we'll be plucking then. We're trying out this drill attachment plucker.
I will say I'll be happy to only have one chicken run and coop to manage this time next week.
Edit: and thank you about the farm name! I thought it was pretty cute too.
