Pls help with my chicken.

Hello team,

i noticed this on one of my chickens starting about one week. It looks like some feathers are gone. What could it be?

Don’t worry. She’s probably just molting. They do that twice a year.

Is that bowl of scratch their only food? They need protein while molting - high carb treats like corn and seeds should be given in moderation. There is no need for a bowl of it to be out like that.

Here's a good real about molting. Normally chickens molt annually once they reach maturity.

Great job being open to improving their dirt. A complete feed in crumble or pellet form, available at a feed store.

Absolutely, I would feed them Flock Raiser at 20% protein, and put out free choice oyster shell on the side. Scratch (that combo of corn and seeds), is just a filler and should be an occasional snack in moderation. I only give my chickens scratch in the winter bc the digestion of the slow carbs helps generate heat in their bodies. In the summer they get a cup (bc I have 35 chickens) of mealworms scattered on the ground every day or two.
