Pls say Hen, or the truth...

First, that much comb at that age is male.
Second, the longer, yellowish (on this bird) feathers on then neck. The fact that they're longer and pointed than the rest of the feathers means male.
Thanks, Maybe its true for EEs, but my RIR pullets had bigger combs than this at 14 weeks and my SLW pullets had similar long pointed feathers on their necks. I always thought the tail feathers would tell the difference.

EE with their pea combs always have much smaller combs than single combed breeds. Pointed hackle and saddle feathers generally appear sooner than elongated tail feathers and coverlets.

Thanks for the info. Need to look at EE Rooster photos and check out pea combs on Roos so I can get a better handle. Next question is, if I left this guy in the flock with my year old Marans roo, how will the two react to each other? I'll have about 12-14 hens when all said and done.
Thanks!
Keith

We're talking about an Easter egger. Different combs look different at different ages. It's not so much size as shape and color, also. Straight combs are always going to look larger than pea combs. Laced birds such as slws have feathers that APPEAR to be long and pointed due to the coloring, but the actual feather itself is rounded, not long and pointed like this guys.

Got it! Yes my SLW feathers looked long and pointy because of the white coloring in them.
