This plucker will be sweet but man the wood weight is maybe 20 pounds and the hardware (all the bolts and screws nuts washers) maybe around 30 pounds. This thing is not going anywhere....lol.....jims

yes we ordered the whizbang off ebay. Came with everything but the wood and motor and drive belt. Even came with the book on how to build it. All we need to do now is custom the motor and get it on..............jim

I have an old cement mixer I've been thinking of converting into a plucker. I'll use a drill on my current batch. I'm thining I can make a plastic insert with fingers, I'm wonder if it spins too fast. I've never seen a "real" plucker in action. What RPM does the hopper spin. Thanks Blaine

the plucker calls for a 3/4 horse with 1725 rpm. We are going to try a motor that i have here at this time that is 1/2 hores but yet it is still 1725 rpm's. check them out on youtube.. the bottom is really moving pretty fast. I think 2 or 3 chickens, 1 good turkey and maybe 3 or 4 ducks. This plucker will work just fine. little worried about the ducks with the smaller body style. Thats why im thinking more birds so they dont get banged up to much.....wish me luck.....jim

Here are the parts and the calculated feather plate spin speed

Motor
—1725rpm Farm Duty motor, 3/4 HP

V-Belt & Pulleys
—2-1/2” drive pulley
—15” or 16” driven pulley

7.85in (2.5"circum) x 1725rpm = 13548.12 inch-rpm
13548.12 inch-rpm / 47.12in (15"circum) = 287.5 rpm
13548.12 inch-rpm / 50.27in (16"circum) = 269.5 rpm

So your feather plate in your whizbang plucker is designed to spin at 269-287 rpms.

Based on the motor rpms and your pulley sizes... there are different combos that will get you to that speed.

As for making one in a cement mixer... not sure how that would work. The drum/wall of the whizbang is stationary... only the base plate (feather plate) spins.

Cheers!

Wondering of you ever tried the cement mixer/plucker thing... I've some one giving me a mixer and was hoping to convert it.

I realize this is an old thread, but, in case anyone else builds a Whizbang...and is wondering if they spin too fast...

I went to a friend's house to process this weekend and they had an $1100 Featherman.

It spins at 175 RPM, has softer fingers, doesn't throw the birds around near so much, never breaks a wing etc.. AND, does a much better job than my Whizbang.

I've got my Whizbang apart right now to see if I can slow it down for a better pick.

Just my 2¢.
