Plucking ducks

PS: Once you're used to it, it will take about 20 minutes. No more of this hour business

I dry plucked some of the breast this time. I think next time I will dry pluck more. Maybe at the end try to scald wings or just cut them off again. Like Yellow House Farm said, the down seemed harder to get off when wet. There was still some down on there when he went in the oven but it was not a problem.

Thanks.. thats one of those hour projects. I would like to see one done with the wax as Im thinking about setting that up, but I would like to see the end product befor spending allot of money.. anyone got a pic of a finished bird?

I will have 4-600 birds to do next year. The nearest Inspected plant is 6 hours round trip and charges 10.00 a bird. Im thinking wax and the 999 bird exemption may work best for me this year. I would like to see a plucked bird however before spending the money.

I'm thinking the same at the most we may do 5 to 10 ducks next year just don't think it would be feasible to buy the wax. but we're going to try both ways meaning the regular /plucking and also skinning to see which one is best for us.
4-600 birds next year?
