I was wondering if anyone could give me tips for getting all the little fine feathers after the main plucking is done, the last one we did had super fine hairs the kids moaned about on the skin????? I was thinking about using maybe a lighter or something to burn them off? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!! Also what method do you prefer for plucking, last time we dunked in water and the feathers came off with NO effort, is dry plucking just as easy and I would not have to drag out the mess?

Singe it. Take a propane torch or a fire flame and run it over the bird. It will burn off all those fine feathers. Do it outside though. It stinks.

I use a long lighter and done it inside in my kitchen on chickens and turkeys. The feathers come out easier if dunked in hot water about 140F but turkeys are heavy once wet....you can pull the tail feathers first by hand.

Probably too late hope all went well....let us know how it went.

It went well, I butterflied/spatchcocked him and put him in the fridge to rest. I will brine for 24 hours before Thanksgiving and hopefully he will taste fantastic. This is the first tom we have eaten from our Midget Whites and he was a total fatty/fluidy under all his feathers, the hen we did a few months ago was nothing like this guy so I am a little worried.
