Plymouth Rock thread!

I plan to use this guy as my breeder rooster, even though he's related to my hens, so any critiques are welcome.

First thing I notice is that he does not have yellow legs, Plymouth rock skin and leg color is supposed to be yellow. So I would guess wherever you got him from was dishonest and sold you a mixed breed.

Does the Standard not provide for slate-blue legs in the blue variety of Plymouth Rocks?

Also, I have one of his sisters, who has yellow legs.
One of his brothers has barred feathers, but he too has yellow legs.

No. All varieties are to have yellow.

He does look to have a solid body on him though. If I remember genetics correctly yellow legs are recessive, so if you bred to the sister that has correct leg color hopefully would get some yellow legged chicks, if not that generation than breed her sons back to her and try and bring it out.

the blues do have a hard time with leg color. dusky is allowed but yellow preferred. you can try to breed away from it.

Well I have decided while I have the incubator fired up I will hatch as many eggs as possible off the Horstman line SPPR pullets in the month of November. I have 15 eggs I put in incubator 10/16, 17 eggs I put in incubator 10/25 and I hope to have around 20 eggs to put in incubator 11/7. My thinking is these eggs will just be backup chicks but even in my backup chicks I want plenty to cull from.

Very nice White Plymouth Rock cockerel CCCCHICKENS. The White Plymouth Rocks has the Type & Size that all us breeding the other Plymouth Rock varieties are looking for. I look forward to seeing more pictures in the future.

. I didnt plan on getting any rocks, but loved the look of him. I love his personality. I am going to see if his personaltiy changes at all over the next few weeks and if it doesnt I am going to get some eggs and hopefully a few hens for him. Might even hatch a few chicks out here and there. I have enough pens that I could add a few other breeds, so we will see what happens. What makes the other lack the type and size?

Okay, thank you very much!

my guess is your birds all have yellow skin they also have the genes that make dark legs. skin color is either yellow or white and yellow is recessive. I don't really know all the genes behind the genes that make light and dark legs.

forgot to hit send.....dang
