Your hens are beautiful. They look huge! I hope your hen is okay. My rooster was acting odd today as well. He is usually in my space, trying to see what is in the bucket. Today he was nearby, but didnt try to look in the bucket and didnt make sure to push everyone out of the way so that he could eat first, which is so unlike him. He just isnt acting himself, but seems to be healthy. I picked him up and examined him, he is good size, and overall seems healthy, his comb and wattles were a little light though.Thank you, Scott! They sure did have a good time today. The BR hens are the ones who are the most industrious of all my hens out there in the woods. One of my Dellie hens was out roaming with them, but for some reason, Georgie didn't seem to feel well today and was just standing around looking spacey. She is about to turn 5 years old and hasn't been laying in a couple of months so I hope she's okay.

rex, looks built. I have seen you post pictures of some of your older birds ( ameraucanas and a few others) and they look to be doing great for their age! I know the average life expectancy for chickens are 7 years, but I think that is on the low end (even though it doesnt say that. I remember a few members on here having chickens live around 14 to 15 years, which I find to be amazing. So they might hang on longer than you think. Thanks, I think he is just having one of those days. Its not that he acts sick, just that he is not behaving like he normally would.Thank you, yes, they are hefty hens, especially Ida, who is the mother of the 1/2 Delaware cockerel in my avatar, Rex. You can see really her influence in that guy. I hope your rooster is okay. I have so many hens who are 5-7 years old now that I expect them to start dropping off any time now, but some of those 7 year old girls are laying, amazingly. Two of those are Barred Rocks. My original hens are long gone now.
BARACK OBAMA: The chicken crossed the road because it was time for a change! The chicken wanted change! To all my Rock friends....a little "cheer" for the day
Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road?
