Plymouth Rock thread!

I have one barred rock pullet, Rosemary that was raised with 2 other chicks and my ducks, and the 2 other chicks passed away earlier on

.. She doesn't get along with the other chickens, only the ducks. The problem is, the duck pen gets so muddy, and the other day I found her laying in the mud with the ducks stepping on her! I cleaned her off and she was doing fine, and I decided to move her and the ducks both into the chicken coop so they could be out of the mud. All went well, until yesterday when I couldn't find her anywhere, only to find her beaten up by our mean EE hen. She pecked out the feathers on half of her head and on her eye. I cleaned it out, and put neosporin on it. She still hasn't opened her hurt eye, but she is eating and drinking. I seperated her from the other chickens and the ducks too, but when should I move her back in with them? Do I need to wait until her eye and head are fully healed, or can I put her back once she isn't sick anymore? Sorry for blabbering on, but she is so sweet and I want to make sure Rosemary will be okay. Thanks

Sorry to hear about your poor pullet. This thread isn't overly active and isn't specific for injuries. I suggest maybe posting this in the Emergencies/diseases/injuries Forum you will likely get many immediate responses there.

Is your pullet close in size with your other chickens? If not I would keep her separate maybe through a wire fence side by side with the other chickens until she is almost as large and that way they can also get acquainted better before you try to integrate again.

I wish you luck.

I'm so excited I just got my New Plymouth Rock rooster this morning. I don't think he is pure breed but oh well. This is him now

Do you guys notice your rock pullets to be exceptionally fiesty? My Lydia is 3 months old and she is very sweet with people but incredibly bold and strident. My cat got into the garage (where the chickens lived until we finished our coop) once and Lydia went straight up and pecked poor Butters on her ear. She looks like a bull, she has the most intense, determined look in her eyes all the time and if she wants something nothing stops her. I have two little silver sebright cockerels 8 weeks old and when they cockfight she gets right in the middle and takes on the winner, she towers over them of course and really tags them hard. I have to keep them separated in the run and the coop because she's so mean to them and they are the most timid, yielding little birds. Lydia is my youngest pullet but even when she was half the size of the others (and she's still smaller) she ruled the roost. She doesn't absurd anyone except the boys, but everyone defers to her. She's spunky and adorable but I half expect her to crow sometimes. Is this a common trait for the breed, this strong personality?
