I have recently got a new rooster with a hen and have them quarentined he seems very healthy he crows and clucks like a normal roo but I have noticed he keeps on sneezing nothing is coming out of his nostrils though.I went to the farm store and bought chlortetracycline soluble powder and I put some in his drinking water. Is this the right medicene becouse it said on the packet you can use it for chickens and is there anything else I can do to help my roo he is very nice to the hen he has he lets me pick him up and I love him very much. Can you plz help me?

How long has he been sneezing?? Could there be something in his nostrils (dust/dirt) ?? I'd keep watching him very closely for any other signs of problems. Watch for swelling of the head, crusty eyes, coughing/sneezing of blood etc. Is the hen showing any problems?? Without there being any advancement of the symptoms it's hard to know what it is to treat, so I would continue with what you are trying.

I really hope he is not sick, but he could have one of any number of upper respiratory ailments, such as Infectious Coryza, Infectious Bronchitis, a CRD, or perhaps some other form of respiratory distress including bacterial, fungal, or viral infection.

Just don't panic, play it smart. I would leave him and her in quarentene for several weeks and then put another chicken in with them for two more weeks to see if begins the sneezing. Yes, it's a pain in the behind. But, you just don't want to expose your flock to something you will regret. They could be carriers to something and you never even see symptoms other than this sneezing.

Congratulations on finding a nice, sweet roo. I wish you many happy years with him.

yes what does the pgk say as to the amt you put in a gallon waterer of
chlortetracycline soluble powder

what does it say that is in the medication?

okay yes the bird is a carrier and yes it will spread with that said here is what to do immediately

the quarantine will last for over a month as such
because
the bird came to you as a carrier
no doubt the owner before had this respiratory disease and then doctored the birds and this bird is a carrier

as your situation is different than what the bird had grown used to it started up sneezing

****coryza would have snot with it and coughing and such for CRD and MG
and the bird would have lung conjestion***

this may go away if you follow this treatment asap

also may I caution every one as to having visitors to your place and going to the chicken barns so as not to get disease from the visitors especially if they have chickens

right now in the spring is a good time for the wild birds to go around your flocks and defecate and your birds injesting the manure which has disease in it are then infected
so one may get respiratory disease at any time they have wild birds
sparrows, starlings etc flying around or eating from chicken feeders

with that said
****here is a plan I firmly used and obided by always ****

after the birds get off the medication

***DO PUT 2 tbsp of ACV in the waterers ***

***and feed the wet mash probiotic immediately today
NOW for two weeks each day at first feeding
remove the dry crumbles and feed this

then three imes 3rd week
two times week for 4th week
and then once a week for life of chickens
this will probably prevent the chickens getting sick

wet mash probiotic WITH VIT E

***this is for one chicken multiply it by number of chickens eating it ( whole flock that has been on medication)
EACH CHICKEN gets 1-1000 mg of vitE
cut top off capsule and add to wet mix ***

natural probiotic wet mash
2 tsp of dry crumbles
3 tsp of milk sweet, sour or buttermilk
1 tbsp of non flavored yogurt
1 tbsp of applesauce on top after Vit's have been mixed in
mix good and put the

the Vit E is very good for the gut system after the medication and respiratory disease should keep chickens on the good gut flora and semblence of health

email me any questions

Apple cider vinegar. You have to get the "raw" kind which is available at health food stores. Otherwise, you're not really doing much. [Raw isn't the right word though...help?]
