i have never hatched eggs before and am looking at octagon and suro.. my question is..the eggs are so crowded in there how do they hatch? do the chicks crawl out onto the other eggs? do the shells cut them? and how can they dry with the humidity so high?

Hi -
I don't have an octagon, but I have hatched many a chick in a Little Giant still air incubator. Yes the chicks will crawl out onto the other eggs, but that should not hurt the eggs or chicks. I have never had a chick get cut on egg shells, I would not worry too much about that. You will be surprised, but they do dry even in the high humidity and will start fluffing up pretty quick after hatching. Good Luck!

Yes they will crawl onto other eggs, and as they dry they will run on them. Never heard of a chick getting cut by an egg, but I guess its possible. They will dry, just remember leave incubator closed to keep the humidity up.

ther ehave been other ppl asking this question recently. everyone said they had great hatches with it and yes they are a little crowded but its ok. try searching for brinsea.

I'm just trying my Suro for the first time. I only have 8 eggs in it and they are due to hatch on Wednesday, the 29th. It looks like they have plenty of room. I used to have a Little Giant and opened it and took them out as soon as they dried off, but I am reading on here that you shouldn't open the lid because you lose too much humidity. With the Suro it doesn't take as long for the humidity to come back up, but I am going to try to wait a while before I take them out. I think I will try to egg carton method of hatching too, I have several detached air cells from shipping.
