Hi BYC,

After referencing this site many times over the last year I finally decided to sign-up.

I got my 2nd set of chickens a year ago. The first set were three "pullets" my wife found on Facebook that ended up being cockerels that were rehomed, back in 2020.

Now I have 4 one year old hens, and 5 four week old chicks.
The 4 originals I have are 2 Dominiques (Necklace and Margaret Hatcher) and 2 Buff Brahmas (Cookie and Biscuit). The new girls are 2 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes (Sunny and Abigail), an Amerecuana (Sweet Pea), a chocolate Orpington (Coco), and a white crested black polish (Adiada).

I adore their personalities and the cute ways they communicate. I also find satisfaction in the consistency of the work involved with their routines.

When I'm not parenting a kid or chickens, and I'm not working I enjoy cooking, painting, and play games.

I've lived on proper farms before when I was a kid, but only because my family rented a spare house on someone else's land. Never even knew I wanted chickens. This has been a really treat and I am happy this hobby is part of my life now.

I imagine my path to the BYC forums is just like most others: Google searching "<chick breed> sexing "x"-weeks old." Same with weird looking skin and feather issues, off behavior, normal behavior I thought was odd because I didn't know chickens yet, and frantic googling on if some food was poisonous for chickens.

Looking forward to finally being part of the conversations.
