Going to look at 3 1/2 to 5 month old pullets at a farm tomorrow and thinking about the following to start a new flock in a new coop.
2 each of
Barred Rock
Black Sex Link
Buff Orp's
Delawares
Speckled Sussex
You input will be greatly appreciated

Hi John,
I would suggest 3 or 4 of the same knid.
That way if someting happens to one you will still have a pair.

New coop is only 6 X 8 with 2 sq ft of space lost to outside accesable storage. If I get everything I'm planning that's 10 birds (at 2 per breed) 3 each will be 15 and crowded. Maybe once I see them I'll be able to cut the breeds down and get 3 yet not over crowd.

Too small a coop? If they are free range, or have a real large pen, I would accept a smaller coop. If they're in alot, you need a bigger coop.
Hopefully the place has some Jersey Giants. I love mine

Run outside coop will be 8' wide by 16' long unless they are shut in due to weather they will always have daily access to it. They will also be able to range my 2 acres when I'm home etc. So...6X8...so less the lost storage space they will have 46 sq ft of floor, that's plenty for 10 birds..or am I wrong?
John
