"DON'T store your eggs pointy end up! It puts too much pressure on the air chamber!"

Or does it?

Well, here it goes. My experiment. I had stored half a dozen of my Silkies' eggs pointy end up, curious to see if they'd hatch. Unexpectedly, my partridge Silkie hen went broody today. Those six "upside down" eggs were the ones on hand, so under her wings they went.

Curiosity killed the cat. Will it kill the chick? Only time will tell.

Actually I read a study recently that pertained particularly to commercial operations. They found that by storing the eggs upside down prior to incubation, it eliminated the need to turn them, and actually increased the hatchability. Do you have silkie eggs the same age which are being set at the same time, and have been stored in the traditional manner? That would be a good test of the theory.

3 days till hatch day! No candling has been conducted...

following.... I am always interested in these experiments... My daughter for whatever reason and no matter how many times I tell her different always puts the eggs away pointy side up..

Hey wait just a second.. It just dawned on me.. I told her if she did that I wouldn't be able to hatch them!!!

There is an article in Poultry World May/June issue about incubation. They say "store pointy end up" until put in the incubator.
