Pointy end Down

Have you ever noticed this and all the other stuff people come up with. I seen on here that people are hatchin pointy end up now. Why dose it matter. My hens don't store their eggs pointy end down. They have better hatches than I do. Kind of like the all the sexing the chick threads by egg shape, Holding chicks by the head or upside down. All these things amuse me.

I have heard it really doesn't matter which end is up. A hen lets them lay sideways, and just rolls them about. I guess the idea is the weight of the yolk and white shouldn't rest on the air sac, so it doesn't break? I'd say to be more like a hen, a bator would have the eggs on their sides, but with 100% hatches for some, that doesn't seem necessary either. Hum.

Put an egg on it's side on a flat surface. Due to the uneven 'egg' shape, the big side naturally is a bit higher. Natures way of saying small end down.

No, the broody hen does not position it like we do, but Mother Nature has a big roll in it.

The air sac is in the big side. If it is positioned on the bottom, the air can try to migrate to the top. And kill any life form developing.

The chick tries to (internally) peep in to the air sac. If the air sac is on the bottom, and the chick peeps upside down, the air sac may fill with liquid. Drowning the chick before it zips.

So, yeah. Hatch rates may be ok with the small end up, but it may not be. I am all for giving that wee chick a best chance possible.

I keep reading conflicting information. I have 17 eggs in the incubator on day 16 all pointy end down with air sacks on the pointy end. Will my chicks be able to hatch upside down? I have them in little cups cut down from paper egg cartons. On Day 16. When I go to lock down on Sunday, should I remove everthing and lay them on their sides in the incubator? I'm very concerned that the air sack is at the pointy end and it's on the bottom.

I always do pointy side down, since the air sac is up top. And lay them on their side for hatching. And mine do just fine

What I'm saying is that when I candled the eggs last night, the air sac is most definately on the pointy end which is DOWN, the big end is up and there is no air sac on that end. In all of the pictures I've seen, the air sac is on the big end. Again...mine appear to have the air sac on the pointy end which is down! should I set them all on their sides at lock down?

I can't give you written in stone info,but logistically thinking...if the POINTY end is DOWN and it contains the AIR SAC I would definitely lay them on their sides.Otherwise I would think they would drown when they pip through the membrane? Good luck

Don't leave them upside down!! Is it possible you can't judge which is the pointy end (sorry, bit stupid but I find it difficult in some eggs). I think the best way is to put them on their sides.

I try to put them in the refrigerator pointy end down. At least half the time I can't tell which is which.

yes Should really say small end down....yes because shape of egg small egg will be down ,when on the side. The air cell need to be on the large end, why because that is where the chick needs to pip and zip.

If on small end , chick can't hatch ,or will pip small end and hole will be to small for chick to get out.


Eggs can and are hatch on their side ,lot of incubator do, but those incubator where eggs are up right ....ITS A MUST SMALL END DOWN, thats no bull ,but pure fact.
