I'd like to thank all those who offered support, suggestions and compassion with the loss of one of our first chickens due to an intruder putting a mushroom into their coop. As I mentioned in my first posting I have locks (10) on all coop and run doors. We have added 3 new chickens (that was an experience in seeing the pecking order develop- not fun!) and all are doing well. We now have 8 laying ladies. As some suggested, I will put my game camera up and see if it will work. I do know that when it takes pictures at night, a flash goes off, so that may alert the intruder should he come back which might result in the stealing of the camera. I may have to mount it on the top of my nearby shed so he can't reach it. Time for some experimenting! Thanks again to all of you! I'll keep you posted!

Thanks for sharing your story and the update! I just looked at your original post.... The camera is a good idea, same for the locks. Trespassing and intentionally harming your chicken is really low :rantSorry you lost your chicken!! I worry about mushrooms at times but my girls get out pretty much every day and have never shown interest. If they were in a run it may be a different story...

An option to a game camera would be the inexpensive camera systems at Harbor Freight. They are good systems for the money and they cameras are equipped for night vision. Or search for any inexpensive DVR, monitor and night vision camera kit.
