Poison/Trap Mishaps

LOL I have to say there are way worse smells than a skunk. It doesn't even bother us anymore from smelling them hunting and hit on the road a hot summer day. LOL

I used to be a dog groomer and let me tell ya about "tomato bath"... yeah it HELPS, no it DOES NOT get rid of the smell. I remember a solution I used to get, I can't remember the name, something like "Skunk Off". It gets almost all of the smell off in one treatment. Works on people, carpet, animals, pretty much everything.
Yeah there are worse smells than a skunk's spray... but I think even a dead rotting animal washes off quicker than skunk.

Many years ago I had a neighbor with a yard full of chickens. She went out with her 38 one night after hearing a noise and shot what she thought was a possum...

It was her beloved cat.

Awww thats so sad!!!

When I was a teenager, we had a Opossum in our barn. I thought I would go "scare it off" with my Dad's .38 pistol... I went into the large METAL barn where we kept our horse, being soft hearted I fired a warning shot... The Opossum didn’t move. The horse jumped, looked at me and shook his head. I shook my head and returned to the house, temporarily DEAF and a lil down hearted. My Dad took care of the Opossum later.
I learned that day not to fire warning shots (esp. in a metal barn where sound reverberates) and just kill what needs killed.

the electonic rat zappers work great on chickens.

I kept them (rat zappers) in upside down milk crates. Well, I saw the light beeping, went to check and my beautiful black frizzle cochin pullet was dead.

they work though..........just keep em' away from chickens.

Sorry that your friend killed her pet thinking she was protecting the kittens.

How did she get to it through the milkcrate? Sorry to hear you accidentally zapped your pullet. Not to be insensitive, but I see a tad bit of irony that a frizzle was shocked, to me frizzles looked like those kids that rub balloons on their heads or a chicken that got caught in a tornado. It would have been funny, had it not been fatal.

I'm paranoid with the rat poison I have in the barn. I have 2x4 wire in a 6ft circle around it and the poison in the middle. Even then, I park my truck outside the barn and watch, any left over poison is picked up before I leave. The rats are very desensitized to people, all I have to do is rattle the feed bins and they come a runnin'. Very predictable, DH even decided to play with the 20gauge and shoot some rats, so I sat him on a five gallon bucket and told him to look over there and they'll run across, I rattled the feed buckets and sure enough they came running. *facepalm* Redneck DH and his guns. LOL

Somehow, because she was small enough (pullet bantam) she crawled through the handle hole. I guess the peanut butter looked irresistable to her.

I saw the light beeping red, got excited, "Yay, another one" and flipped crate over. AAAGH!!!
