Neighbor woman told sister that her son had sprayed week killer in their yard and called his aunt's chickens over and they ate the sprayed vegetation, they are in-laws and nephews of our egg lay who supplies eggs to about 8 families, not including their children. Reported this to state police immediately, did not hear back from them. I then reported this to our township 2nd in command. She, who also has chickens just laughed and said " well all my chickens come home at a given time to roost in hen house. Folks, Ive seen her flock foraging on her many neighbors properties. Since incident I talked husband of egg lady to build a more extensive chicken area to keep ALL of their chickens penned up. Those free ranging girls are not happy BUT they are not getting poisoned anymore. Since then, the bad neighbor has employed his small children to call the girlies to fence line and throw food to them. Personally after that incident I started my own private flock within a 6' critter proof, privacy fence around a half acre section of property with private runs covered with fencing and locked doors/ gates all the way around. Haven't lost anyone. Next is instillation of a nice security camera system that will be put in during next spring. NOTE. time lapse of poisoning was about 3 months so all of us had eaten the eggs.

Frankly, If it was poisoning the eggs, it would have poisoned the chickens, so there wouldn't be any eggs.
Why are you, a fourth party, calling the police? About what, exactly? You herd the information through a grapevine, it may not be remotely true.
Glad you got your own chickens, that's nice as long as they're kept right. Byc is a great resource for you to get tips on doing that.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

I've heard similar horror stories of neighbor's kids feeding chickens all sorts of things. Generally, most lawn fertilizers are child/pet safe once they dry, though I'm not sure in this case it was.

Regardless, privacy fences, locks, and cameras all sound like perfect ideas! I hope you have no incidents keeping your flock!

We're glad you're here!
