My new group of pullets are just starting to lay (Yay!). But I have one pullet who has spent most of the last 3 days in the nest box. She fluffs around in there, making the wood shavings into a bowl and even has sung the egg song a few times, but has not laid an egg. Is this normal? Should I worry that she is egg bound? I have 2 older hens laying that hopefully are demonstrating normal egg laying for the pullets. I tried to feel around her backside but did not feel an egg inside.

    Thanks for any help!

She sounds like she is struggling. Maybe squirt some Olive oil into her vent, to help? If not, give her a couple more days. Could she be broody?

2 of mine did the same thing for 4-5 days before they started actually laying. I would keep an eye on her but if isnt in distress i wouldnt worry yet.
