Hi, Everyone. I'm new to BYC, and have been reading and learning a lot. I have a question that I haven't seen anywhere (except for two conflicting remarks in different threads). I'm getting ready for my first chicks, and have ordered Blue and Buff Orpingtons (one each) and gold laced and silver laced polish (one each). I've ordered all females, hope it works out that way... :) Anyway, now I'm getting nervous because of the size differences. I'm wondering if these two breeds can co-exist peacefully, or if the Orpingtons would be aggressive towards the smaller, flashier birds? I still have a little time left to change the order. Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

No need to worry. I have a VERY mixed flock, and the difference between my orpingtons and Polish is nothing compared to the difference between either of them and my old English game bantam (front).

You're gonna be just fine!

When I started with chickens 6 years ago, my first breeds were buff orpingtons and Austrolorps (both quite large); my rooster was a GIANT blue orpington (he weighed 15# at maturity), and just for fun we threw in 6 silkies (about the size of Cornish game hens). Everyone not only got along fine, but several of the Silkies *adored* the rooster and could often be seen standing between his legs with their fuzzy little heads peeking out, or sleeping under his wings in the coop. They felt safe with him, obviously; and I witnessed him repel predator attacks more than once (hawks and foxes) on these little girls. I say they'll get along fine.
