I am a newbie who hatched some great chicks. Apparently, 3 out of 5 are boys! 2 of them (dominique and EE) are chest butting all the time and lots of friendly chicken testosterone stuff going on. I really can accept that those chicks are boys. I also have 2 polish....One who has quickly developed red wattles, while the other has none. I sent pics on another post and a couple of people feel certian that the one with the wattles is a boy

I will have a hard time letting go, because these two polish are ALWAYS together. Yes, the birds tend to flock together anyway, but it is different with the two polish. If one wanders away, the other follows. I know I sould crazy, but it is true. This makes for a very sad sentimental me when it is time for them to separate.

Also, this polish "guy" doesn't act rooster-ish AT ALL. Zero aggression towards the other roos and sweet as can be. The other boys leave him alone as well, and they leave the girls alone.

Finally, after researching, his head seems so nice and puffy and rounded. Is there any chance could be a girl? Do the girls ever develop red wattles? He was 9 weeks yesterday. I will also add that he is slightly larger than the one with NO wattles.

Sorry for posting this twice, but we are all very attached here and wondering if it is worth it to hold out hope...

Here are his pics....and thanks!

He has such a nice smooth girly hairdo! Is that because he is only 9 weeks....or could he be a girl??

i think you have a girl.i would keep her a little while longer.
can you post a picture of the other polish?does she have a beard?

i had a trio once and i could tell the rooster early on mine.here are some pics of them and the little blue boy had a spikier head.my girls had wattles like yours and they all 3 were the beardless variety.also my black hen had bigger wattles than my splash.

its crest is swept back and there are feathers that hang down further than they really should but again you can ask in the polish thread they helped sex my silver laced polish (although i still think cockerel mines going onto 5 months now)

this is just for cuteness (wish hatchery stock looked this nice in the crest department)

Thanks Dinahmoe,

Here is the other polish, same age...both of these polish are 9 weeks. I've been told with red wattles like my other one at 9 weeks, it's a no brainer, has to be a boy. Ugh. Just so mellow, and the other roos leave him alone, which makes me wonder....wouldn't they be messing with him a bit by now if he was a roo? Keeping my fingers crossed....I'd appreciate any feedback. So here is the other one, no waddles at all on this one... Both of my polish don't seem to be spiky, but is that normal at 9 weeks? Does the spiky hair do happen when they are older most times?

Thanks hdowden!

You were a big help yesterday with my other chicks. I will take your advice and post in the polish thread. Thought about that but that thread didn't seem to get much activity. It is worth a try!

you could do what i do,keep them till they lay or crow.lol

my young roo had thicker legs, maybe check yours?
keep a look out for hackle and saddle feathers, both of which i see no development yet,but maybe too early.

hackles and saddles come in at about 12 to 16 wks. on average, some sooner some later.

Are you not able to keep a roo where you live? If it is a cockrel and you are able to keep a roo I would get some extra hens to keep him busy and keep him! He is a sweetheart.

Thanks, Yes Yorklady, he is a sweetie, and no I am actually probably not even allowed to have HENS where I live, let alone roosters! It is kind of like a don't ask don't tell sort of thing lol.l My only neighbor who can see my backyard is fine with the whole chicken thing. I hoping this all works out, if not I know re-homing hens isn't as difficult as roosters. I am already too attached to these things!
