Hello! I'll begin by saying I've searched EVERYWHERE on this site to try to find an answer to this question. Our adorable polish is almost 5 months old. It has a red face which makes us think rooster, but it also has NO sickle or pointed saddle feathers at all, which makes me think hen! This one is confusing the heck out of us. No crowing yet, even though another old english bantam we had has been crowing almost 3 months. I'm also wondering if these are spur nubs that are showing up. Thanks in advance!

At that age, she's a pullet.

Those are indeed spur buds, and she's had them since hatch. Both sexes get spur buds, and hens occasionally grow spurs.

Thank you! I kept wondering if if would grow the saddle and sickle feathers because the red face and waddles came just about a month ago.
