I have 5 crested Polish chicks in different colors, but the 2 that I am fairly certain are roos are both white crested blue. One is a very pretty blue and the other is blue with some black patchy areas. They are just starting to get their little red combs and wattles.

Anyway, my question is about breeding them (and others that I plan to buy) to get chicks that will be a variety of colors. I know basically nothing about coloring and genetics. I assume when I mix a blue rooster and a black hen, I would get chicks of both colors, along with some that are mixed--kind of like the one that I already have. Is that right? What if I had a white hen? Would the offspring be blue, black, and splash?

What kind of color combination would I get from mixing my blue roo with a buff laced hen? Would I just get some of each?

If I had hens of various colors, what color rooster would give me the widest variety of colors in the offspring? I have the 2 white crested blue, but could get more later. This is just what I ended up with by chance.

Breeding black x blue will produce 50% black, 50% blue. If you breed blue x blue, you'll get 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash. Breeding white x blue would produce 50/50 blue/black crossed with whatever the white's masking. Crossing blue x buff laced will produce mixed color birds with 50% carrying the blue gene. If you plan on showing, keep your colors seperate with the exceptions of blue/black/splash and choc/khaki/black.

Thanks. I won't be showing my chickens. I just like to have a colorful pet flock and was curious about what types of combinations I could get.
