My two Polish chicks are almost 10 weeks now. That means for nearly 10 weeks I have wondered if I had hens or roos because they were streight run. Now I think I can tell. I believe I have one roo and one hen.

The roo's head feathers are not as groomed looking as hers -- like he is having a bad hair day. His tail feathers are slightly longer and he carries them more erect than she does. He also spreads out his tail feathers giving his tail a different shape than hers. He spends a lot of time puffing his feathers and flapping. And....the final clue, he has started crowing.

She, on the other hand, has a slightly tighter and more controled hair doo. Her posture is different with tail fathers often held level with her back or slightly dropped down. And....she hasn't crowed yet.

I could still be wrong, but I am pretty sure, one roo and one pullet.

By the way, their waddles are still nearly the same size and there is no visible V comb yet. I do expect his waddles to grow larger than hers eventually.

Afraid that my optimism has been short lived. After reading a few of BYC member comments on other Polish chicks, I think mine may both be roos.

I posted pics. of my Polish on What Breed or Gender is This?, which is probably the proper posting, so if you want to take a look you can find my post there.

I think it is time to shop for some White Crested Polish Pullet chicks!
