Hi, for those of you familiar with polish chickens.. I’m thinking about getting some polish birds. I have a mixed flock of standards and bantams from RSLs, legbars, austrolorps, Cochins…it’s an awesome flock very docile and friendly. Unless I have a broody everyone gets along perfectly. I’ve got plenty of coops, and land. I’m not familiar with polish chickens at all except the “hair dos”. Would they be a good choice to add to my flock?

Mine generally do fine with others as long as there's no bullies. Just make sure you get more than one, probably at least 3 since rhe hair do will be a novelty for the other breeds to peck at

I have 2 Polish and I love them. I got them with my grandchildren in mind, and my husband picked out a Bresse because she looked cool. We were very ignorant chicken owners at the time. The Bresse was quite aggressive with the 2 poor little Polish and I considered getting rid of her. And chicken math struck.
I added 2 Ees, I OE, 1 BR, I SS, 1 SS,, 1 BO and 1 Welsummer. When I finally integrated the chicks the Polish taught them their place in the pecking order quite assertively. It was hilarious watching the big 10 week old chicks run from them.
Then 1 Polish became broody which supposedly never happens. She spent 3 weeks out of the coop but in the run in a separate nesting box coop. She was a very mean little broody - I had to wear gloves to get everyone else's eggs. 3 weeks later and Aafew days after she returned to the coop I discovered she had been viciously attacked. She now lives in a separate crate in the run and is recovering nicely. We are building a separate run for her and the other Polish who will have to live with her because she can't spend the rest of her life in solitary.
I blame the Bresse. I would cull her, but she's my best layer and my granddaughter named her and ....I don't know. One of these days I still might.
