Polish Crested question

Y'all, this is A Boy Named Sue (was Susan until he started crowing šŸ˜†). His crest droops to his right, and when he looks at things he tilts his head to see it with his uncovered eye. He understandably gets freaked out when things come at him from his blind side.
Would you cut the feathers and give him a fancy mohawk, or put his feathers in a chick-bun? He's pretty flighty, so catching him will be interesting... should I try to catch him after he roosted for the night or will that ruin his safe place?
I just want this freak-o to be more confident.

Yes, I would trim the feathers.

Getting him off the roost after dark would be a good way to catch him. Swaddle him lightly in a towel to capture his wings. You'll be able to control him better that way.

He may be less flighty once he's able to see properly.
